ndia will become the second largest mobile broadband market globally within the next four years, with 367 million mobile broadband connections by 2016, according to GSMA.
In doing so, India will overtake the US, which will account for 337 million mobile broadband connections by 2016, however, will still be second to China, which will have reached 639 million mobile broadband connections in the same period.

Which Tablet Is Better For Students: Micromax FunBook Or HCL MyEduTab?

With the inclusion of more and more technology in education, tablet computers are surely going to play an active role in classrooms of all kinds. Keeping this fact in mind, tablet makers are fighting a tough battle to bring in cheap and best tablets to attract students in India.

Rahul Sharma, co-founder, Micromax, said, "Tablets will soon be an essential part of the Indian education system. But there will be many challenges for the device makers for sure. Offering complete devices with content at an affordable price will be the biggest challenge."

Recently, Micromax and HCL launched their FunBook and MyEduTab respectively. Both of them are offering almost similar technological features on Android 4.0 aka Ice Cream Sandwich. But let us mark them on their educational content.

HCL has come up with two versions of MyEduTab- K 12 and Higher Education(HE). The K 12 version caters to students from KG to 12th standard, following the NCERT pattern of syllabus. The Higher Education (HE) version offers rich multimedia content on technical and professional skills, assessments and apps, which will enable students to enhance their all round personality and employability. It also allows access of content on the cloud, apart from offering offline content. The K 12 version is priced at Rs 11,499, which includes Rs 3,500 for the content and the Higher Education (HE) version is offered at Rs 9,999 including Rs 2,000 for content and cloud access.

Micromax will be offering content in its FunBook via its educational content marketplace called Vriti, which includes 500 different course materials from about 30 content publishers. The course materials are priced at a minimum of Rs 50. The FunBook offers study materials for all school boards including ICSE, ISC and state boards. Students can also buy materials for higher education (for university) from Vriti. The company has joined hands with Pearson and Everonn for content. “Micromax is offering the flexibility to the user to choose their content. Whatever material the students feel is useful can be bought. Nothing unimportant is forced on them. It is more like whatever book you want to study from, just buy it," said Susha John, director and chief executive officer, Everonn Education Ltd

Aakash, Aakash 2, UbiSlate, UbiSlate 7+, upgraded Aakash - For many, these all are just one device, the world's cheapest tablet Aakash. However, from branding to specs, these all represent different tablet models.

The next generation of Aakash tablet is going to be launched soon and lot many are confused about the difference in nomenclature between these devices, their availability in the retail market and their corresponding deliveries to the end customers, who have pre-booked it earlier.

Google to focus on low-cost tablet market to popularise Android

We definitely believe that there is going to be a lot of success with the lower ends of the market, as well with lower-price products; that will be very significant, and definitely an area we think is important, and we're quite focused on, Google chief executive Larry Page said while responding to a question.
He also acknowledged that Google is facing a stiff competition in the tablet market, which is dominated by Apple's iPad. Page also highlighted Amazon's low-cost Kindle Fire tablet, which runs on Android platform but doesn't feature Google's services, like its search engine, e-mail and social network, with the tablet.
"There's also obviously been a lot of success on some lower-price tablets that run Android, maybe not the full Google version of Android," Page noted, referring to Amazon's tablet.
